Pangaea ~ Pangaea Supercontinent
Pangaea: The Pangaea land mass was a supercontinent that existed 250 million
years ago before the continents drifted into their current positions
PangaeaThe Pangaea land mass was a supercontinent that existed 250 millions years ago before the continents drifted into their current positions as discussed in Violations. Although Pangaea remains a theory, it is now widely believed that such a supercontinent existed during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras about 250 million years ago. Supporting evidence for the theory comes from the fossil record of both animals and flora together with geological evidence with matching data from the western coast of Africa and South America. Of course, it is unlikely that Pangaea was the first super continent nor will it be the last as the earth's plates continue to move with the continents continuing to drift away from each other, and conversely towards each other. This video shows the break-up of Pangaea and the subsequent drift of the continents across the surface of the globe. Indeed, India is still crashing into the Asian sub continent, throwing up the vast Himalayan mountain range. |
