Cyrus TeedCyrus Teed: Cyrus Read Teed believed in a hollow earth. Dr Cyrus Teed postulated that known world is on the concave, inner surface of a sphere as discussed in In Search of the Lost Civilisation at Violations. Teed called his theory "Cellular Cosmogony" and he founded a group called the Koreshan Unity based on his idea. One of the appeals of Cyrus Teed's hollow earth theory was that he was a masterful orator, and the theory itself had a certain appeal. The known world and its sciences were developing rapidly in the 19th Century and mankind was beginning to realise that what he didn't know was vastly in excess of what he did know. Cyrus Teed made the whole universe smaller, more manageable, more comfortable for according to his theory not only was the earth no longer an insignificant lump of rock orbiting an obscure star but it was the whole universe! Although now scientifically discredited the concept of a hollow earth along Teed's imaginings has remained popular in culture with many films centring on mankind' journey to the centre of the earth. Tibetan folklore has many myths of openings into the earth and even Hitler ordered an expedition to Antarctica in the hope of discovering the portal to this subterranean world. |
