Lazar’s original allegations were made ‘under-cover’ however the attempts on his life persuaded him to reveal his true identity, believing that if the death threats were a government ploy, it would be unlikely that they would attempt to kill him again once his identity was in the public domain. Indeed he didn’t die, but lost his second wife and was arrested in April 1990 for his business involvement in a Las Angeles brothel. Despite his somewhat dubious background and credentials there is, in fact, substantial evidence to support his allegations (17).

In 1994 a witness came forward who had worked with Otto Krause, another German scientist who had entered the US under Operation Paperclip and who was based at the nuclear test site in Nevada during 1961 and 1964. This witness stated "We got talking one night at a card game and I was telling Otto about growing up in Farmington and seeing those UFOs when I was a kid … and he laughed and said ‘Yeah’, that he was at White Sands at that time.

"He had been assigned down there … Otto said that one had crashed in Roswell and one had crashed at Aztec. He said they were both brought to White Sands and put in a hanger there. The aliens he never saw. He talked to people that had seen the bodies and evidently one [from the Roswell Incident] supposedly lived, and they took him to Area 51 (18)."

Mike Hunt, who worked for the former Atomic Energy Commission (with whom Fred Crisman of Maury Island fame was offered employment), and held ‘Q’ clearance and an inter-agency top secret clearance, stated that he had observed a disc shaped UFO on the ground in Area 51 during the 1960s (19). Film footage was taken of this event and later analysed by Dr. Bruce Maccabee, an Optical Physicist for the Surface Weapons Division of the US Navy.

His conclusion was that "there is an object out there, 70,000 feet away. It isn’t one of ours. It’s about 30 feet in size. A genuine UFO." (20)

Dr. Michael Wolf, author of ‘The Catchers of Heaven’, a book published as ‘a work of fiction’ in order to get round the secrecy laws, served during Vietnam as an Air Force Colonel, pilot and flight surgeon, and as an I-Corps intelligence officer for the CIA and NSA. He gained a MD in neurology, a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, a Sc.D in computer science, a JD in law, and MS in electromagnetic influences on organisms and a BS in biogenetics.

From 1972-1977 Dr. Wolf was engaged in covert governmental research into ET technology. He decided to go public on finding out that he had a degenerating spinal condition, and had no fear of his family suffering any repercussions as both his wife and son had died in a car crash in 1984 in what has been described as an act of sabotage. Wolf claims:

"Some in the government want better diplomatic relations [with the ETs] but others in the military wasn’t to shoot them down." This is ironic, Wolf stated, "because SDI [Star Wars] technology was given to the government by ETs."

He claims laboratories where he has worked include:

S-4 (near the north-east corner of the Nevada Test range.

Area 51 (as Team Leader)

The Foreign Technology Division at Wright-Patterson AFB (right).

The former Dulce Laboratory near the New Mexico-Colorado border.

3. Wolf claims that there are also extra-terrestrials working with

Government scientists at Haystack Air Force Laboratory deep under Haystack Butte at Edwards Air Force Base California.

4. Wolf refuses to discuss allegations of a complex at Indian Springs Auxiliary Air Field adjacent to the Nevada Test Site.

5. Since 1979 Wolf claims to have served as a scientific consultant to Presidents and the National Security Council on extraterrestrial matters. He also claims to be a member of the NSC’s unacknowledged UFO information management subcommittee’s panel of scientists (MJ-12).

6. Wolf claims MJ-12 made him the Chairman of the Alphacom Team, its premier extraterrestrial-matters group which also includes an admiral from naval Intelligence.

7. Wolf notes that the generals he worked with feel impotent in the face of the overwhelming superiority of extraterrestrial technology and mental abilities. Because of their feelings of powerlessness, the generals authorised an intense and extensive disinformation campaign to discourage any attempts by civilians to acquire even the limited understanding that has been acquired so far.

8. Wolf claims that a renegade group exists within military and intelligence agencies involved in the UFO cover-up. This group nicknamed the Cabal fears and hates extraterrestrials and without presidential or congressional authorisation, this group has commandeered Star Wars weaponry to shoot down UFOs and interrogate captured extraterrestrials.

9. Wolf claims that he cannot make full disclosure to President Clinton as "I can’t; my [NSC] bosses won’t let me." Wolf states "President Clinton does not know much about Area 51; and he does not know about S-4" the supersecret underground installation 13 miles south of Area 51 at Papoose Lake where Wolf did some of his research.

Wolf states that the claims made by Lazar are essentially accurate, and whilst Lazar might have seen a "Grey-type alien out of the corner of his eye working with scientists", he "was in the white lab coat and …[] was one of the scientists." (21)

In an interview with researcher James Courant, Wolf was asked about communication with EBEs. He stated, "There was some ESP and there was some effort to try to form the words, but as it became difficult to form the words … I mean, it’s like going into a rain forest and discovering a new tribe that has never had contact with the human race before … Their cosmology, their principles, their culture is based on … is completely and dynamically different than ours." (22)

Wolf was asked to explain how the aliens apparently travel millions of light years without incident, yet some allegedly crashed on entering Earth’s atmosphere. Wolf replied, "Most of their trips are made to planets where the weather is controlled. On this planet we are not evolved sufficiently, technologically to control weather with … weather grids … We have wind-shear, we have the jetstream, we have sudden hurricanes and tornadoes and really … really weather conditions that can change moment to moment, and if you’re riding on gravity A and B waves, you’re kind of on a cork on the oceans almost." (23)

That information regarding the ET phenomenon is becoming more widely available in the public domain from official sources is demonstrated by a reply made by Admiral Bob Inman (right), former Director of Naval Intelligence, National Security Agency, and deputy Director of the Defence Intelligence Agency and the CIA when in conversation with Bob Oechsler in 1989. Inman was asked "Do you anticipate that any of the recovered vehicles would ever become available for technological research, outside of the military circles?"

Inman replied "I honestly don’t know. Ten years ago the answer would have been no. Whether as time has evolved they are beginning to become more open on it, it’s a possibility (24)." (Inman retired from governmental work in 1982 to become President of SAIC (Scientific Applications International Corporation). Based in San Diego, this corporation was involved in research into gravitational propulsion systems, exactly the same area of work as Bob Lazar at Area 51.)

Another impressive witness to what was going on after the end of the Second World war was Philip Corso, who, as discussed previously, wrote a book entitled ‘The Day After Roswell’. It will be remembered that Corso was Chief of the US Army’s Foreign Technology Division and a member of President Eisenhower’s National Security Council. During his twenty-one year military career he was awarded with nineteen medals, decorations and ribbons for service, and has recently testified before the House National Security Committee about American POWs held in North Korea. (Appendix 4).

Corso’s book, however, failed to generate the expected attention, perhaps because most of the information it contained merely confirmed what had already been ‘leaked’ out; namely that an alien craft did crash at Roswell and that his job as Chief of the Foreign Technology Division was to reverse engineer alien artefacts recovered from the wreckage.

Within the book Corso makes reference to the extent and intensity of rivalry between government agencies. He even depicts the CIA as a more serious threat in the 1960s than the Soviets ever were, and he describes how he spent more time avoiding being spied upon by the US intelligence services that by the Russians.

He also notes that whilst there was real rivalry between the West and Soviet Union, the Cold War was mainly a cover for preparing to deal with the perceived threat from the aliens and for getting and keeping allied nations and the people on board to support a military build up that has always primarily been directed toward defence against alien incursion.

Corso describes many of the technologies and products that he says are the direct result of, or assisted by, the reverse-engineering of alien artefacts: integrated circuits, lasers, optical fibres, super-strong fabrics like Kevlar, stealth technology, EMP devices to disable electronics, and directed energy weapons. He suggests that much of the work undertaken on mind control technologies was inspired by alien use of such technologies to control their craft and abducted humans.

Corso also details how the Strategic Defence Initiative (Star Wars) was actually designed to defend against aliens, more than against missiles from other human nations.

History records a speech by former President Reagan as quoted by then Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev as stating "The US President said that if the Earth faced an invasion by extraterrestrials … the United States and the Soviet Union would join forces to repel such an invasion."

In this book Corso makes the following points:

The Earth is being visited and observed by aliens flying UFOs.

There have been multiple crashes of UFOs, recoveries of them, and recoveries of their alien crewmembers including the crash near Roswell in 1947. The captured UFOs were/are kept at Norton, Edwards and Nellis (better known as Area 51) Air Force Bases.

One of the Roswell aliens was shot and killed by a soldier, who thought it was trying to flee.

The original crash near Roswell was apparently the result of damage to the craft by lightening which disrupted the anti-gravity effect it used.

The alien craft recovered near Roswell had no facilities for rest, feeding or waste disposal, and no obvious power or propulsion system.

The aliens are remarkably similar to human beings in their anatomy, but lacked digestive or excretory organs. (Corso is of the opinion that the ‘greys’ are synthetic beings, like androids, designed for performing the missions of the UFOs, but lacking true independence or will or purpose.)

The US government has been in contact with the aliens, and has negotiated an agreement with them that Corso describes as a temporary surrender.

Alien artefacts have been reversed engineered to some degree and some of the results fed to companies that have developed products based on it.

These technologies were precursors to today’s integrated circuit chips, fibre optics, lasers, night-vision equipment, super-tenacity fibres and classified discoveries such as pyschotronic devices that can translate human thoughts into signals that control machinery, stealth aircraft technology an Star Wars particle beam devices.

The original ARPANET (which evolved into the Internet) was largely driven by the need to co-ordinate a response to the ‘alien problem’ and to develop a communications system that would be difficult for aliens to interdict.

A working group was formed in September 1947 by President Truman and not all subsequent Presidents have been told about its existence. (MJ-12)

Officials have threatened people to get them to keep silent and may have killed people to this end.

As noted above, the book does have strong credentials, and Corso himself held a reputation for standing up for what he believed was right. For example, at the end of the Second World War, he arranged the safe passage of 10,000 Jewish refuges out of Rome to Palestine and under the Kennedy Administration, it was Corso who leaked information to trusted journalists that Kennedy and the CIA were prepared to allow the Soviets to deploy nuclear missiles in Cuba.

This leak resulted in the Cuban Missile Crisis as Kennedy was forced to confront the situation. (Corso believes that Kennedy was assassinated by a conspiracy of elements within the US government. His work on the staff of the Warren Commission under Senator Richard Russell makes this claim credible.)

Yet despite these strong credentials there are some remarkable errors in the text. Corso makes reference to forming plans in 1961 for himself and General Arthur Trudeau to visit the famous mathematician John Von Neuman (right, pictured with President Eisenhower). Yet Neuman had died on 8^th February 1957. Corso also confuses the Northrop B-2 with the Lockheed B-2 Stealth Bomber. Corso also states in the book "early failures to lift off the navy’s WAC Corporal and the Army Redstone had made laughing stocks out of the American rocket program…" Yet the WAC Corporal was an Army not a Navy missile project and the Redstone rocket never failed.

These errors take the shine off this remarkable book, however it has been suggested that such obvious errors – and they are TOO obvious – give the book a degree of plausible deniability.

There is an interesting anecdote regarding the forward written by Senator Thurmond which was discussed when Corso was interviewed by Michael Lindemann (below) of CNI News on 5^th July 1997 at Roswell.

ML: What about the problem with Senator Strom Thurmond’s foreword to your book? Simon and Schuster [publisher] has issued a bland apology, saying that they’re going to pull Thurmond’s foreword out of future printings of the book. What was your understanding with the Senator?

PC: I’ve known Strom Thurmond for almost a lifetime… We’ve always been pretty close. I found out recently that his staff did it... I discussed UFOs with him. I gave him a copy of Project Horizon. About a week later, not only did I get the two pages that are in the book, but I also got a note from him authorising Simon and Schuster to print it. Bill Birnes [co-author of the book] has all that.

ML: Bill Birnes told me when I arrived here today that he was under the impression that Thurmond or perhaps his staff had been pressured from higher up to back out of this. Can you say anything about this?

[Colonel Corso’s son, present during the whole interview, made very visible hand signals to the Colonel at this point indicating that the Colonel should not answer this question.]

PC: I can’t verify that one way or another.

ML: Forgive me, Colonel, if I ask Mr Birnes to say something about this. [Birnes was in the room embroiled in a side conversation at this time.] Bill, the Colonel has just declined to address the question whether or not Senator Thurmond (right) or his staff may have been pressured from higher up. You indicated that he might have been. Can you explain?

BB: This is just my understanding of it from stories I heard… one of the staff members said "don’t you understand that the Senator cannot be on a book cover, writing a foreword for a book that says the United States government utilised alien technology to win the Cold War? Don’t you realise this man is fourth in line to succeed the President? Don’t you know this man is chairman of the Armed Services Committee? No, it can’t be."

So they went to Simon and Schuster and said, "You have to pull the cover. Take it off the shelves, get the foreword out, write a new cover." Simon and Schuster said absolutely not. Then they made it very clear to Simon and Schuster, saying, "you’re part of a large conglomerate. Your large conglomerate has to deal with government regulatory bodies. Do you really want to be in this position?"

These errors have led some sceptics to turn on Corso and attempt to discredit the entire book. However, it is probably reasonable to expect some factual errors to creep in thirty years after the event of who worked where, dates, times etc. However, the major feature of the book that Corso saw an alien and headed up a department that reverse engineered alien artefacts is something unlikely to become confused in time.

It either happened or it did not. To confirm that it did happen, Corso stood up to his critics and initiated a court action to acquire military records to support claims made in his book. To this end he signed an affidavit (the signing of which could have left him open to charges of perjury if his claims were found to be false) which read as follows (the defendant was the US Army): [Appendix 3]

"I, Col. Philip J. Corso, (Ret.) do hereby swear, under the penalties of perjury, that the following statements are true:

That at all times hereinafter mentioned, I was a member and officer of the defendant. That during my tenure with the defendant I was a member of President Eisenhower’s National Security Council and former head of the foreign Technology Desk at defendant’s Research & Development department.

That on or about July 6, 1947, while stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas [right], I personally observed a four-foot non-human creature with bizarre-looking four fingered hands, thin legs and feet, and an oversized incandescent light bulb-shaped head. The eye sockets were oversized and almond shaped and pointed down to its tiny nose. The creature’s skull was overgrown to the point where all its facial features were arranged frontally, occupying only a small circle on the lower part of the head.

There were no eyebrows or any indications of facial hair. The creature had only a tiny flat slit for a mouth and it was completely closed, resembling more of a crease or indentation between the nose and the bottom of the chinless skull than a fully functioning orifice.

Then in 1961, I came into the possession of what I refer to as the ‘Roswell File’. This file contained field reports, medical autopsy reports and technological debris from the crash of an extraterrestrial vehicle in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947.

That I have personally read the medical autopsy reports which refer to the autopsy of the previously described creature that I saw in 1947 at Fort Riley, Kansas.

"That said autopsy reports indicated the autopsy was performed at Walter Reed Hospital, which was under the authority of the defendant at the time of the autopsy.

That said autopsy report referred to the creature as an ‘extraterrestrial biological entity.’

[Signed] Colonel Philip J Corso (ret.)"

Attorney Peter Gersten, head of CAUS (Citizens against UFO Secrecy) prepared to represent Corso in the court action, having an established track record with Freedom Of Information enquiries. The scene was then set: a former senior military officer who was prepared to swear on oath to what he had seen and the nature of his former work, and the might of the US government and military.

Truth was the victim as Corso was dead within weeks; having suffered a massive heart attack on 9^th June 1998. He was buried in a military cemetery near Orlando, Florida.

Truth has often been a victim. Although over the years a number of individuals with impressive credentials have come forward with information that throws light on what was really going on behind the scenes since World War II, even more individuals with less credibility and some with mischievous intentions have also stepped forward and promoted themselves as harvesters of the truth. These fraudsters have captured the headlines and have been used effectively by those involved in the suppression of genuine information to camouflage and distract attention away from facts that can only serve to embarrass and undermine political and social infrastructures.

Of course, most of the significant events occurred over half a century ago, and as such the opportunity to scrutinise and cross-examine witnesses is now becoming lost forever.

As Dr Edgar Mitchell commented at a conference in October 1997: "… in our briefing of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Intelligence Group, it became very clear to us that they were naive. They did not really know any more about this effort than we do, if as much. That is because, as Bob Dean pointed out earlier, most of the people in government were not in government when I retired twenty five years ago, they are younger people. The files going back fifty years just no longer exist. They’ve either been purged, compromised or whatever. They don’t exist.

"So when we blame government for not being forthright, they really don’t have anything to be forthright about, at least on that level. Now, somewhere there’s knowledgeable people … and in my own efforts in talking with these folks, and talking with government, the question often comes up as to how they could have kept this a secret for so long. And friends they haven’t. It’s been around us all the time, but it has been denied, and obscured…

"… There’s been a massive effort at creating that, of denying the obvious, of saying that you’re not seeing what sitting right in front of you right now, thus causing doubt in your own mind. It’s amazingly effective. So documentation and evidence, that is probably the smoking gun type of evidence, has been totally compromised by saying that it’s simply not true. So it is not true that they [government] have kept the secret. They haven’t kept the secret, but it has been totally compromised by misinformation and disinformation."
