Lazar blew the lid on Area 51 in 1989 claiming that nearby S-4 served as a hidden military location for the study and possible reverse engineering of extraterrestrial flying saucers. A full scale operation to discredit Lazar then erupted and he has  been hounded ever since with numerous allegations about his private life including suggestions that he had never even worked at the facility; a claim not really thought through as he had his payslips available with evidence that he did.

Despite these concerted attacks on both his integrity and his background, Bob Lazar's allegation were corroborated by John Lear (whose father was William Lear, inventor of the Lear Jet), who has stated that Lazar did indeed have authorized access to Area 51 in the 1980s.
